About Ploehrliou

Ploehrliou is galaxy 59 of 256 in No Man's Sky, a lush galaxy. Better odds of lush, living worlds. The game calls them Halcyon, Inspiring, Serene or Tranquil galaxies, under a green hologram.

Travellers arrive here from the centre of Davanossi. From the centre of Ploehrliou, the road goes on to Corpinyaya.

This atlas holds 370 charted regions and 49 star systems of Ploehrliou, each with its portal address.

What does Ploehrliou mean?

Ploërmel

Ploehrliou comes out of the game's name generator, like every galaxy name after the fifth. The word as a whole is invented. But split it the way a Breton speaker would hear it, and its three parts make a sentence that holds together.

  • Ploe-, or Plou-: the parish, the community. It is the old Breton word for a gathered community and its parish. In the fifth century, emigrants from Wales (Cymru) and Cornwall (Kernow) crossed the sea to Armorica (Arvorig) and organised the land into plou, from the Latin plebs, the people. The word is still everywhere on the map of Brittany (Breizh): Plougastel, Plouha, Plouescat, and Ploërmel, with the same Ploe- as this galaxy.
  • -hr-, as in hêr: the heir. In Breton, hêr means heir, and hêrezh the inheritance. It is an old Celtic root.
  • -liou: colour. Liou is the old spelling of liv, colour in Breton, plural livioù.

Read with a Breton ear, Ploehrliou becomes "the community that inherits the colours".

A galaxy of colours

The nod is involuntary, or a stroke of genius. Ploehrliou, the 59th galaxy, is a lush galaxy, with better odds of green, living worlds and paradise planets, and its centre glows slate blue. A parish of colours, indeed.
