Stories

Every save holds a journey its traveller never quite read. Write my story turns a No Man's Sky save into a short story you can keep and share.

How it works

  1. Open Write my story and drop your save file.
  2. Your save is read in your browser. It is never uploaded.
  3. Before anything is built, you decide, one by one, what happens to the names you gave in game: keep, drop or rename.
  4. You get a seed: a short code that holds the shape of your journey, a link, a QR code, and a receipt to print or download.

Anyone with the link reads the story. Nothing is published unless you ask.

The mosaic

If you choose to, your story joins the Mosaic: one tile per published story. A human reads each story before it appears.

Your receipt carries a destroy key. Typing it on the takedown page removes your story from the site, with no account. Keep the receipt: if you lose it, nobody, us included, can remove the story for you. Put it on the fridge.

Sharing the geography

You can also choose to share the geography of your save: the systems you discovered and named, and the black holes you crossed. It fills in the catalogue, and the story renders with the names you actually chose. It is a separate choice from the mosaic.

Privacy

Tessera, the engine behind stories, is the most carefully built part of the site, and it has its own page: Privacy of Tessera. Read it before you share.

Tales

Tales is the editorial side of the site: stories decoded from real saves, write-ups to come, and the gallery of backgrounds, screenshots by players, each credited to its author.
