How to find the portal address of where you are in No Man's Sky

Four ways to get the portal glyphs of the planet you stand on in No Man's Sky: photo mode, a portal, a signal booster, or your save file. Then how to share it.

1. Photo mode

The quickest way. Open photo mode while you are on the planet: the portal address of the planet shows in a corner of the screen, as twelve glyphs.

Photo mode shows the glyphs but does not put them in the picture you take. Write them down, or take a screenshot with your platform's own button (Steam, PlayStation, Xbox) so the glyphs are on it.

2. A portal

Find a portal on the planet and charge it. Its terminal can give you the address of the planet you are on, as well as open the portal. A portal also shows which glyphs you have unlocked.

3. A signal booster

A signal booster, built from the build menu, shows galactic coordinates: four groups of four characters, like 041D:004D:0D88:0157. They are not glyphs, but they hold the same place. Paste them as they are in the portal decoder and it converts them to glyphs. The planet itself is not in the coordinates: they point to the system, and you pick the planet glyph yourself.

4. Your save file

Your save holds every system you discovered. Write my story reads it in your browser, without uploading it, and turns your journey into a story. You can also choose to share the geography of the save, so the systems you named join the atlas. See Stories.

Share the address

Once you have the twelve glyphs, give them a link anyone can open:

The link opens the system page, with the glyphs drawn as on the portal, so your friends can dial them. See Use direct URL.

Always say which galaxy: the same address leads somewhere else in each one. See Why does my address lead to the wrong planet?

Keep your places

Bookmark the systems you care about in My Glyphs: your list stays in your browser, with no account. To share a place with everyone, contribute it to the atlas.
